Flushed takes place in the golden age of online poker. It follows a couple of young players from their humble beginnings to their rapid rise into the professional poker world. The series aims to bridge the gap between old and new and to present poker in an unprecedented light.

The series is produced by Andrew De Jesus Maldonado, produced by Luis Carlos Salgado, and John Ros, known for his work on People Be Like and Send Foodz by Group Nine Media, as well as Amazon Ragneron and Rich Africans. The series was written by Shan Harris, an award-winning screenwriter best known for Rabbit Island and Co-Hab.

Subplot Entertainment was founded in 2013. Since then, they have created countless projects ranging from podcasts to award-winning films. Their clients include companies such as Warner Media, Top Dawg Entertainment and Discovery Inc. In 2020 they announced the development of their feature film "The Knock".
According to the latest research, over 100 million people play poker worldwide, 60 million of them in the US alone. From 2002 to 2013, poker's popularity doubled year after year. Right now, interest in online poker is higher than ever, partly due to the ongoing pandemic.
